Choosing the right system for condensate treatment often raises questions: When do you reach for the BEKOSPLIT emulsion splitting plant and when is the QWIK-PURE oil-water separator the better choice? In our interview with Margareth Klein, Senior Product Manager at BEKO TECHNOLOGIES, we explain which condensates are suitable for which system and how our laboratory service can help you find the perfect solution.

Interview with Margareth Klein: BEKOSPLIT or QWIK-PURE?

Hello, Margareth, our customers frequently inquire about when to use BEKOSPLIT and when to opt for QWIK-PURE. Could you kindly explain the key differences between these two products?

With pleasure! The BEKOSPLIT and the QWIK-PURE have completely different areas of application. The BEKOSPLIT is designed to treat stable emulsions - i.e. water-oil mixtures that are particularly difficult to separate. Such emulsions are often caused by unfavorable initial conditions or due to certain lubricant/compressor combinations. The BEKOSPLIT not only removes hydrocarbons, but also impurities in suspended form from the water. A special environmentally friendly reactive separating agent with naturally occurring, clay mineral as the main component is used for this purpose, which breaks up the emulsion, traps oils and thus enables contamination-free disposal.

In contrast, the QWIK-PURE stands out as the first active oil-water separator. It is used when dealing with unstable condensates or condensates that are easier to separate by gravity. In simple terms, the QWIK-PURE is used to separate unstable condensates, simple oil-water mixtures in which the oil components separate from the water by coalescence. While other oil-water separators rely solely on gravity, the QWIK-PURE works with light purges of compressed air to actively force the condensate through the filters. This ensures a fast and efficient separation process, even with fluctuating oil inputs and condensate quantities, and the capacity of the filters is optimally utilized.

QWIK-PURE is the world's first active oil-water separator.
Does this imply that the BEKOSPLIT is designed for more challenging cases, while the QWIK-PURE is better suited for less complex applications?

That's very true. If we are dealing with stable emulsions in which the oil is finely distributed in the water and this distribution remains stable over a longer period of time, then there is no better choice than BEKOSPLIT. The QWIK-PURE, on the other hand, is perfectly suited for situations where oil and water can be separated without the need for additives. Thanks to its active separation technology, it offers a very modern and reliable solution for unstable condensates.

Both systems have their strengths, but they are used in different situations. Both BEKOSPLIT and QWIK-PURE are approved by the DIBt. This means that our systems comply with the legal requirements for the treatment and discharge of oily wastewater.

If a customer is uncertain about which system is best suited for their condensates, how can you assist them in making the right choice?

We provide a dedicated laboratory service for this purpose. Customers can send in their condensate samples, and we analyze them to determine which product is best suited for their condensate. This is particularly helpful if it is unclear whether it is a stable emulsion or an unstable oil-water mixture. The service ensures that our customers choose exactly the right system and meet the legal requirements. Additionally, we provide customers with a detailed overview of the residual hydrocarbon content and the associated operating costs.

That is really practical! It seems the lab service provides customers with a great deal of confidence when making their decision

Absolutely! This ensures that customers avoid costly mistakes and select the best solution for their condensate treatment.

When we recommend a BEKOSPLIT, we also determine which separating agent is best suited to the application and which dosage will achieve the best possible results. This is especially crucial for condensates that are very difficult to separate and stable emulsions, such as those generated when using certain types of compressors.

Thank you very much, Margareth, for your thorough explanation of the differences between BEKOSPLIT and QWIK-PURE!

With pleasure. I think this will certainly help our customers to make the right decision.
