Food Safety – Compressed air as a means for safe and efficient production in the food & beverage sector
After their appearance at this year's Anuga FoodTec in Cologne (March 20-23, 2018), Beko Technologies has a positive conclusion: "Together with our partner, the KIN Institute, we have the link between food and compressed air technology at our booth”. Norbert Strack, managing director of Beko Technologies GmbH, sums up: "It has been shown that many companies in the industry are not yet aware of the importance of compressed air preparation for the safety of food. At the same time, it has a direct contact with the end product in numerous production processes, which is why one of the aims of our trade fair appearance was to raise awareness of the significance of compressed air in food production."
Process for oil-free and germ-free compressed air
The food industry depends on absolutely oil- and germ-free compressed air to meet the strict requirements of DIN ISO 8573-1, Class 1 oil content, and the individual high quality and hygiene requirements. Beko Technologies provides tailor-made system solutions for the entire compressed air treatment process between the compressor and the end application - from filtration and drying, condensate drainage and treatment to the continuous measurement and monitoring of compressed air quality.
The BEKOKAT® technology achieves compressed air purity that, with a residual oil content of barely measurable 0.003 milligrams per cubic meter of compressed air, far exceeds the requirements of EN ISO 8573-1 for class 1 oil-free compressed air. By means of catalytic processes, the hydrocarbons are completely converted into carbon dioxide and water by total oxidation. This mixture drops after the subsequent cooling of the compressed air as condensate and is led out of the system.
With the TÜV-certified measuring device METPOINT® OCV and the new METPOINT® OCV compact, the residual oil vapor content in the compressed air can be measured and monitored in real time. If the residual oil vapor content increases, an individually configurable alarm is triggered. This ensures that appropriate measures can be taken before exceeding the limit values.
Expertise for higher food safety
Strack: "Compressed air is an important set screw for increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy and production costs. As a partner and consultant for numerous manufacturing companies in the food industry, we know where further optimization potential can be exploited in the individual processes. To share our expertise with food industry experts and leverage synergies, we cooperate with the Landesverband für Lebensmittelkontrolleer Baden-Württemberg and the food institute KIN e.V. - for greater food safety.
